Karyotyping is a cytogenetic test which evaluates abnormalities in structure as well as number of chromosomes that contain the code of human life; the DNA. Every human has 46 chromosomes in each cell, wherein 23 comes from the mother and the other 23 from the father. Of the 46 chromosomes, 22 pairs are termed autosomes while the last pair is the sex chromosome, being XX for females and XY for males.
This chromosome banding and evaluating test is popularly recommended for couples with fertility issues as well as to ascertain pathological factors which affect chances of conception.
